How to Use the 110V AC Power Outlets

The Schumacher SL1460 includes two 110V AC power outlets controlled by a built-in 200W modified sine wave inverter.

The AC outlets can power compatible electronic devices and small household appliances within the inverter’s limits.

AC Output Specifications

SpecificationDetails
AC Outlets2
Output Voltage110V AC
Frequency60Hz
Inverter TypeModified Sine Wave
Maximum Continuous Power200W
Maximum Momentary Surge Power400W
Surge DurationLess Than 0.1 Second

Important AC Power Limits

The combined continuous power demand of connected appliances must not exceed 200W.

Equipment containing electric motors may require additional power when starting.

The inverter can provide a brief surge of up to 400W for less than one-tenth of a second.

However, some appliances rated below 200W may require more starting power than the inverter can supply and cause an automatic overload shutdown.

Modified Sine Wave Inverter

The SL1460 uses a modified sine wave inverter.

Before connecting electrical equipment, verify that the device is compatible with this type of inverter and remains within its power limits.

The manufacturer recommends testing equipment to determine whether the inverter can operate it correctly.

AC Outlet Operating Instructions

  1. Make sure the connected appliance is switched OFF.
  2. Insert the appliance plug into one of the two 110V AC outlets.
  3. Press the AC Output button.
  4. Confirm that the AC Output indicator appears on the LCD.
  5. The Power Output indicator also appears, showing that AC power is available.
  6. Turn on the connected appliance.
  7. Monitor the power station for warning indications.
  8. Recharge the power station when battery capacity falls below 40%.

Using Multiple AC Devices

When connecting more than one appliance, start each device separately.

This reduces the possibility of simultaneous starting surges that could overload the inverter.

The combined continuous load must remain within the 200W limit.

AC Output Overload Protection

If connected appliances overload the inverter, the Warning icon flashes and the inverter automatically shuts down.

The automatic shutdown protects the inverter from excessive electrical loads.

The Spanish section of the owner’s manual also describes an audible warning that sounds every 3 seconds during an inverter overload.

AC Extension Cord Requirements

The manual permits using an extension cord between the inverter and a connected appliance.

For the best operating results, the extension cord should meet the following requirements:

RequirementSpecification
Wire Size16 AWG (1.31 mm²) or Larger
Maximum Length50 Feet
ConnectionBetween the Inverter and Appliance

AC Electrical Safety

WARNING: The 110V AC outlets can cause electric shock or electrocution.

  • Do not connect an external AC power source to the generator’s AC outlets.
  • Do not plug the generator’s charging cord into its own AC output.
  • Do not operate connected AC devices while the internal battery is charging.
  • Do not exceed the inverter’s 200W continuous rating.

Maintenance and Battery Care

The Schumacher SL1460 requires regular charging to maintain its lithium-polymer battery.

Internal Battery Maintenance

  • Recharge the unit when battery capacity falls below 40%.
  • Never completely discharge the internal battery.

Maintenance Safety

Before performing maintenance or cleaning:

  1. Disconnect the power station from its electrical charging source.
  2. Disconnect connected electrical equipment.
  3. Do not disassemble the power station.
  4. Contact customer service if repair is required.

Turning off the controls alone does not eliminate the electrical shock hazard associated with a connected power source.
