How the Programmable Room Thermostat Works

The Heatmiser edge combines a heating programmer with a room thermostat.

A room thermostat measures the surrounding temperature and requests heating when the measured temperature falls below the selected setting. Heating stops when the selected temperature is reached.

The programming function allows different temperatures to be maintained at different times of the day.

Understanding Temperature Settings

Increasing the set temperature does not make the heating system warm a room faster. The heating rate depends on the system’s design and capacity.

A higher temperature setting keeps heating active until the higher temperature is reached.

Reducing the set temperature also does not make a room cool faster. Instead, the heating system maintains a lower target temperature.

Choosing a Comfortable Temperature

A practical method of establishing a suitable temperature is to start at approximately 18°C and increase the setting by 1°C each day until a comfortable temperature is reached.

Once the required temperature has been established, the heating schedule can maintain it automatically.

Avoiding unnecessarily high temperature settings can reduce heating energy consumption.

Thermostat Position and Airflow

The thermostat requires unrestricted airflow for accurate temperature measurement.

It should not be covered by curtains or obstructed by furniture.

Nearby electrical heaters, televisions, wall lamps, and table lamps may affect its temperature reading.

Parts, Components, and Control Buttons

The Heatmiser edge has a digital LCD display on the left side and five vertically arranged control buttons on the right.

The bottom of the display contains selectable menu options that change according to the operating mode.
