For most applications, the reversing valve is configured as O, which energizes in cooling. Some systems, such as certain Rheem or Ruud setups, use B, which energizes in heating.

If a C-Wire Is Installed

If a C-wire is present but the thermostat still does not turn on:

  1. Confirm the C-wire is connected to the C terminal at the thermostat.
  2. Check that the same wire is connected to the C terminal at the HVAC control board.
  3. Gently tug the C-wire at the control board to confirm it is secure.
  4. Gently tug all thermostat wires to make sure they are seated in the sub-base terminal block.
  5. Use a voltmeter set to AC.
  6. Measure voltage between RH or RC and C.
  7. Confirm the thermostat receives 20–30VAC.
  8. Reset breakers if the power is already on.

If voltage is below 20VAC, the thermostat will not turn on.

Heating or Cooling Issues
